It's the yearbook which helps UK film increase importance to the economy with a direct contribution of 3.3 billion to the UK GDP and a healthy trade surplus of 1.5 billion.
Ed Vaizey who is the Minister for Culture, Communications & the Creative Industries quotes: “The UK is home to a lot of the most talented and creative people in the global film industry, as shown by the 30 major film awards that we won last year. With a record £1.27 billion spent on UK-based film productions last year, this dynamic industry continues to create jobs and attract significant overseas investment and the Government is committed to ensuring this sector continues to flourish and thrive.”
The King's speech is distributed by Momentum Pictures a UK company. They are one of the leading independent picture motion distributors in the UK and Ireland and have released 20 theatrical films a year. On the 9th January 2013 Entertainment One acquired the parent company of Momentum, Alliance Films.
The King's Speech in the year 2011 was second in the top 20 films released in that year and is made in the UK and earned £45.69 million from Box office's showings. It was also shown in 395 cinema's in the UK. It was below Harry Potter's Deathly Hallows part 2. Other film distributions such as Universal seem to bring out more action films such as Fast and Furious 5 and Johnny English Reborn. They both ranked 12th and 14th.
